Ever since we set foot on Rockhampton, everyone has R&R in mind. Wishing that Exercise ends soon and finally get the break we deserved.

See! Rockhampton. Singtel does not provide this GPS service, however, M1 and Yes OPTUS does.

This is the Motel that I stayed at. I’m greatly impressed with their facilities. I was initially posted into a twin room with a stranger, however, it was later changed to be with my camp mates inside a triple room. I don’t suppose there’s much of a difference in size though. There’s one Television equipped with DVD player as well as a queen size bed and 2 single beds. We watched Fun with Dick and Jane there. There’s also a swimming pool!

pict0180-edit.jpg

This is the bath room! See the box thingy on the wall? That’s the soap shampoo and conditioner dispenser! Conditioner dispenser leh! Just what I needed after one day in contact with lotsa sand!

pict0189-edit.jpg

The beer I drank. I think I drank that thrice over 21 days. If you ask me what taste better, Tiger or Victoria Bitter, I cant tell the difference actually.

pict0226-edit.jpg

The very very big shopping erm.. market. There’s Woolsworth too. Stockland is like say.. Centre point? Got many shops. Woolsworth is like.. Giant. A hypermart.

pict0223-edit.jpg

Don’t siao siao hor! Undercover parks here!

This is where my Sir treat us for lunch! Yummy!

To round up this post with a nice nice scenery opposite Bush Inn!

Seniors just have certain qualities which I really admire.

  • The courage to try out something new.
  • The passion for things they like.
  • The knowledge that they possess.
  • The way they carry out conversation.
  • The things that got done when it comes to their hands.
  • The ever caring words to juniors.
  • The experiences that they share.
  • Mainly, their attitude towards life.

Destination: Cooberrie Park

The first pitstop for rest and relax (r&r). There’s aligators, emu, a lot of some small small birds. One of them nicely bite my palm! peacock, pig, iguanas, pony, kangaroo, wallaby, etc. Most of the animals very nice de, but apparantly, all are hungry, therefore they are very eager to get more food.

pict0130-edited.jpg

View along the way. See all those pine trees? No prizes for guessing their uses in this festive season. There’s another patch of more distinct pine tree plantation de. But I didn’t capture it as I didn’t realise they were Christmas Tree until much later. Very nice view along the way.

pict0152-edited.jpg

She’s Teddy. I mean the koala bear.

pict0144-edited.jpg

This is a Wallaby I think. Cause it’s very small. Therefore not a kangaroo? All of them are like very skinny.
pict0161-edited.jpg

“No more food!” As the goat look forth with watery eyes…

There’s a single goat and a single sheep. And I think this shot is very funny. The animals only want food. So they will chase you for food. In one case, the kangaroo is so agressive that it hop hop hop and with a swipe of it’s claws, scratched one of the bags carried by someone. Yup. The handsome guy there is Chris. My unit mate.

pict0147-edited.jpg

This is a very nice white pony. Hard to get to pose together with it ok! Cause so many people watching. So see, even had to do some photoshopping to get the people out of the picture.

Just a short stop and followed by dinner at University of Central Queensland!

Blogging

December 22, 2006

After 5 entries, I suppose it’s about time to take a slight break from Australia. Anyway, the last 3 entries are probably the most meaningful, (for me personally) so I’ll saved it for another time. And maybe I might just conveniently forget about it when the festive season comes!

Anyway, comparing CNY songs and Christmas Carols, do you realise that there is not a single sad CNY songs? The music and instruments made it impossible to detect sadness in the songs as it is usually lively and well, chee-na. However, from lyrics alone, you detect loneliness in Christmas carols. Why?

Anyway, it has been a busy week with Chalet and some work related material. However, they are all over and I’m glad tomorrow has a bbq. Not say looking forward to it, but I just wanna have some company you see, otherwise life gets bored and become a standstill. Okay, I’m writing rubbish again.

Just to let you people know that Escape, in celebrating their 6th year, theie admission tickets are now only 6 dollars! The 6 dollars even include a free ice cream, a free snack (cotton candy) and a free carnival coupon whereby you could win a giant tortoise! I want the giant tortoise! So I think it’s worth going provided it doesn’t rain and also, no rides are closed! When I went there, the rain just had to spoil the fun. Before I got there, they told me that inverter and revolution are closed! Both of those are arguably the most fun le.. Then after the rain, the wet and wild (The boat thing) also closed!

Haha, but anyway, not to spoil the festive mood, who want to go out during Christmas? Haha!

Contact me @ h4nzhon9@hotmail.com la. =)

In case people try to find some keywords…

Single free Christmas lonely

There!

I’ve decided to not blog about this in case some stuff are classified and I tio charged! Anyway, most of you won’t be interested in this. Haha. Cheers!

See the word? Yeppoon. That’s the place. I had the chance to go there because Engineers, unlike NSF could go back to motel to sleep for the night. (Though eventually they were very unlucky to be stationed in camp and some even outfield due to the requirements.) I went there once and I think it was during the second week. It was just a small town but with manificent view!

pict0048-edited.jpg

Comparing the size of the pillow to the size of the bed, it is a queen size bed! I didn’t sleep alone on a queen size bed before ok!

pict0176-edited.jpg

I think that is Yeppoon. Can’t confirm though. But I’m guessing that the only town that this whole area has is Yeppoon. Cause Rockhampton is not so near the ocean. Yup, that’s the Pacific Ocean!

pict0173-edited.jpg

The beach is so nice! But I didn’t get to head down to the beach! Boo! That’s the Ocean! Whereby the corals live, the Sharks hunt… It is very nice, even from the bus, from picture, very nice! You see the horizon separating the ocean from the sky! Without another country opposite it. That’s the closest I’ve been to the ocean. But I’m satisfied!

Part 5 will be about live firing.

You see, living in a camp, we must use their camp facilities. As I’m fortunate enough to be staying in the camp throughout, I used the showering facilities close to 20 times! Yup, the above 3 pictures are the showering equiptment. Before I went there, they (seniors) told me that showering there requires a pulley system. I couldn’t picture what they were trying to say until I saw it with my own eyes!

The first picture basically shows the bag (My favourite one is the 2nd last one). We uses pail as shown in the bottom left area and fill water from the tap as shown in the bottom right picture. (They even offer hot water! Otherwise, I think many people would skip bathing at night because the night is really very cold.) The water from the pail were then poured into the bags. The bags contain the water for showering. I usually uses 2 and a half bucket of water. It’s basically just nice to fill one bag, provided your bag does not leak!

The bags were tied and secure together by a rope. If you see carefully, they have hooks on the walls to secure the knots tied along the ropes. Therefore, in order to bath, there’s certain steps.

  1. Lower the bag by hooking it to the lower end of the rope.
  2. Close the opening. There’s actually 2 types of opening. The first one being a twist open one (The ones without the orange showering thing). That one I think twisting to the right is open and twisting to the left is close. The second one is a push down thing. (The one with the orange showering thing), whereby you just turn the lever up to stop the water from flowing. I personally prefer the second one as twice I tried to use the twist and turn one, twice I didn’t manage to open the bloody thing!
  3. Pour the 2 and a half bucket of warm water inside.
  4. Walk over to the metal hooks on the wall, and pull and pull and pull the rope until the bag reaches a comfortable height for showering.
  5. Lastly, secure the rope with either a knot arond the metal hook, or with the knots already tied to the ropes.

Therefore, in conclusion, it is important that you choose a good bag that does not leak, already has many many knots tied on the ropes because pulling that damn thing up requires effort ok! And also, do not laugh while trying to pull that bag up because you will probably falter. It’s a very interesting experience, but I suppose once is enough. Of course, if there’s no body, just squat by the tap and bath there la.

pict0077-edited.jpg

And the above 2 pictures shows half of my working area. The other half is another container whereby I don’t dare to take picture as the people using the room are those big shots. But it is really very power to change an empty container into a “presentation” room, with 3 projectors, a meeting room style, as well as their headquarters.

Anyway, when I took these pictures we were already packing up and ready to keep everything into the boxes lying on the bottom right of the first picture. There were actually 6 labtops occupying the 2 tables but only 2 were shown. But fortunately, the labtops complement each other and therefore, I only need to monitor 3 most of the time and the remaining 3, just need to be checked like once every hour.

The second picture (the last of all) showed that we didn’t have a shortage of fans! Before everything was taken down, we had 6 fans! Haha. Afternoon was hot la.

Yup, staying in camp was good la. Much thanks to the people around me =)

Part 4 will continue with Yeppoon. For your information, this will be an 8-parter!

How we slept

pict0043-edited.jpgpict0066-edited.jpg

The above picture showed the inside of my tentage. It is a 16 men tentage, with beds lined up neatly along the sides. It is also equiped with clothes lines to hang our clothes for airing or drying. Mine is the one with the Nike bag on top of it. Followed by Chr is’s Adr ian’s and We i j ie’s. It’s very cosy as all the beds are relatively close to one another. However, sleeping in the day is very tough as you tend to wake up in perspiration. It’s very warm inside the tentage as one of the ends is tied and therefore, all the heat can only escape from the other end. However, when it comes to the night, it can get pretty chilling.

The first day we slept, temperature dropped to 9-12 degrees celsius. I remembered in the middle of the night, whenever I tried to straighten my leg completely, I immediately curled back. Haha, it’s like there’s this pocket of air trapped inside my sleeping bag at the feet there. Yes, it is that cold! However, we heard from others that that particular night wasexceptionally cold. And true enough, we didn’t get to experience another such chilling night. In fact, as the days past, temperature rose.

The lower picture depicts my safari bed, with the sleeping bag pulled and arranged nicely. It’s quite nice to sleep. Serious! We had better safari beds than some other people as the master sergeant reserved the beds for the whole tentage. The other type of safari bed aren’t that stable and are lower. It doesn’t look as comfy as the ones shown above.

What I saw outside of my tent

pict0046-edited.jpg

This is the view outside of my tent. Of course the forest aren’t that close. There’s like 50 metres of bare ground separating it. Otherwise, you might see a wallaby (small kangaroo) sleeping together with you. It’s quite a nice sight as you see nature right outside of your tentage. But yup, I didn’t venture inside as my curiosity had been overwhelmed by fatigued.

australia_map_edited.jpg

Above is the Australia map, taken from …… sorry, I didn’t copy down the link location! But anyway, from the arrows indicated, it showed that I travelled from Sydney to Brisbane to Rockhampton. Seriously it sounds so much like a typical holiday to Australia. Going over to Sydney to catch a nice concert at the Opera House, followed by a Trip to Gold Coast in Brisbane and lastly, enjoy the laidback life in Rockhampton.

sydney_edited.jpg

Actually, there’s nothing to shoot at in Sydney airport. The views are pretty much blocked everywhere. These wooden poles are probably the only things special? This was spotted just outside the airport. The temperature outside was probably 12 to 15 degrees celsius. For me and my friends, we were so cold that we had to get our jackets. However, the locals just wore a simple T-shirt and are completely ok with it.

Brisbane was the same thing. Extremely cooling. And by looking at the picture, you will notice that Sydney and Brisbane is not that close, however, Rockhampton and Brisbane are very close together. Therefore, one would think that Rockhampton would be just as cold. However, that’s not quite right. Rockhampton seems to be nearing summer, therefore it is hotter. Like Singapore, maybe just 1 or 2 degrees lower. The climate is not as humid, therefore you will find that you sweat purely to the heat. (Do I even make sense?)

But anyway, the skies in Australia is very interesting and distinct. When you compare to Singapore, when you say clear skies, you will probably see some big patches of clouds, only that most part of the skies are clear. However, in Australia when you say clear skies, there is not a single piece of cloud. When you say cloudy, there is not a single spot of sky.

Yup, I suppose that’s about all for now, part II and III will be regarding my camp life over there. Yup!

Every time I think of you
I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue
Its no problem of mine
But its a problem I find
Living a life that I cant leave behind
But theres no sense in telling me
The wisdom of the fool wont set you free
But thats the way that it goes
And its what nobody knows
Well every day my confusion grows

Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
Im waiting for that final moment
You say the words that I cant say

I feel fine and I feel good
Im feeling like I never should
Whenever I get this way
I just dont know what to say
Why cant we be ourselves like we were yesterday
Im not sure what this could mean
I dont think youre what you seem
I do admit to myself
That if I hurt someone else
Then Ill never see just what were meant to be

Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
Im waiting for that final moment
You say the words that I cant say

I don’t listen to English songs, but this song… go hear it out. Lotsa blog entries to fill, however, my monitor is down, therefore I don’t have much time to blog. Boo!
