Friendships are important! Cherish them well!
August 24, 2007
Ok, I’ve received an email from a friend and I think it relates to what I’m feeling currently.
There was once this little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day, the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his temper, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it is easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally, the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and his father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took the son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, “You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, They leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say ‘I’m sorry’, the wound is still there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Friends are very rare jewels indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.”
Please forgive me if I ever left a hole.
And yup, I feel that certain people deserve more from me and vice versa! Been worrying too much about certain issues that I nearly forgot how it was friendship that got me this far…

Singlish!
August 12, 2007
I suppose 1 day after NDP is good to talk about issues related to Singapore ya? I’m talking about Singlish. Not so much about the la, lor, hor, etc. But just for an intro, what word can we better use than hor? Hor has so many meaning. Hor? Directly know you are expecting an answer. Hor! Usually used before u want to accuse people of wrong doing.
Other than hor, another good word is sian. Sian has so many ways of using it. Sian = bored. But sometimes, it means more than bored. I had an example some time back whereby I couldn;t find a word to replace sian due to my limited vocab.
And today, there’s another example. People always said that the term “free gift” sounds wrong. For gifts are supposed to be free. So well, I’m working helping my father today as usual. And the booth has “free gifts” / free giveaways. The target audience are Filipinos. And they like to ask “got free?” Some even simpler. “Free?” (They are not wrong though)
“Har?” I thought. They can’t expect that we are giving away our goods for free? I wanted to ask them “free what?” Typical Singaporean right? However, being the nice and patient me in the morning, I took a little time to think. And orh! Free gift ar! So when you mention “got free gift?” “What is the free gift?” is so much clearer than “Got free?” right?
So, to sum this blog entry up, I’m proud of being a Singaporean and 爱屋及乌 I’m proud of Singlish too! It’s our slang afterall.
Games
August 11, 2007
Games are like fashion. They come and go. Some games are like the colour Black and White. They never goes out of fashion. They are just not the “in” colour then. Those games are probably like Counterstrike,DOTA . I don’t see the dateline for them. Definitely not within the next few years. They are extremely hard to replace. Counterstrike had been around ever since I was in like Primary 6, but I only got hooked on it when I’m in Sec 2. During sec 3, due to the splitting of classes, the clique of friends that I’ve been playing CS with sort of got busy with our own stuff and therefore, we’ve stopped.
After CS, the next game I got hooked on was Gunbound. You know, those mobile that shoot out power and stuff? I played that till I got a Golden battle axe plus and I realise it’s about time to stop that game. Perhaps it was because toomany people are cheating with aimbots or hacking into other people account. However, I suppose the final straw was that it was never easy to find a game whereby teams are evenly matched.
Thank goodness I don’t indulge in role playing online game like Maple story, Ragnarok and World of Warcraft. Therefore, the next game to get me hooked on was DOTA. It was like everyone was playing it, so why not give it a shot kind of mentality? And so I gave it a shot and well, I sorta grew tired of it since I could only own using 1 single character on good days.
Then come the present. The world of using strategy. The 3G army generation. Wa rga me! No, not my unit but Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium War! I’ve been playing it for a few months now but only lately I’ve been so engrossed in playing online game. I’m not talented or gifted with the game in terms of thinking of strategies. Therefore, I usually let others think the strategy and after watching them online, get awestruck by them and I try to incorporate them into my own game. After months of on and off playing, I’ve finally gotten the general rank! A 1 star general! However, it is only rank 13 out of rank 80+ la. So it;s no big deal just that star looks nicer than stripes la.
I don’t know how long will this game last me, probably at least till starcraft 2 comes out and then they will probably battle out amoung themselves which one will exist and which one not. I’ve stated that they are not exactly similar in terms of game play, however, they both require strategic thinking. I can’t imagine someone who play Starcraft 2 and the next day he play command and conquer. That seems wrong. Somehow, I feel that Tiberium war has the upperhand and it is up to them to lose it.
