Dell Team Dinner

September 2, 2008

Yay! Just came back from probably my last Dell Team Dinner! Quite a big group like 14 of us! So happy to see all the familiar faces! We went to Lavander for dinner and lavander for dessert too! Haha! I don’t know which part of lavander la!

Argh! I kind of miss the people, miss what I used to do. At least there is no mugging required. When there are no customers, we could just sit down and talk. But in Uni, even if there’re no tutorials/assignment, you have to find something to do otherwise something is not right. Haha!

It’s nice to have outings with people that are not currently part of your life u know. Cause is like at least you catch up with one another and learn more about what each other is doing and so on.

Important thing is.. keep in contact guys!

Work, I shall!

August 5, 2008

Since I got so much time, and my bank account doesn’t seem to be growing, I think I shall work! Haha!
Tuition / Sales?
That’s the question. Haha!

Last day @ Dell

July 28, 2008

I’ve officially left Dell! Ahhh, after working there for 6 months and 1 week, I get to taste freedom! I must say that throughout the 6 months, I’ve learned lots and gained many valuable lessons. I sincerely thank my wonderful colleagues for the past 6 months for the continuous guiding and for all the help you’ve given me. I do a roll call k!

Clifford
My Manager!
Frankly, I really do not see why did you hire me, but I’m really glad you did! I mean, I don’t suppose I shined during the interview, making blunders like Pentium 4 is the current latest processor when the word core 2 duo is like pasted in front of me! Haha! Nevertheless, thanks for giving me the chance to be part of the team!

Alex
My main kiosk manager!
The evergreen personality! How often do you get a manager who is much older than you but act the same way! Haha! Very experienced staff who offers excellent service! Much of the enjoyment I experienced in the kiosk is because I’m working with him! He’s probably the one who taught me many things about universities and their courses, about traveling to Taiwan, about food, about a lot of things and of course about work related issues!

Andrew
My kiosk manager as well?
When I first entered I must admit that I have this feeling “Oh no! Please don’t let me work together with this ah beng!” Haha! The first impression: Biker, ear studs, dyed hair haha! But when I got posted to suntec and worked together with him, I found that he is very kind! I started out learning everything from him! Be it the system specifications, how to talk to customer, what to say and what not to say and everything! Great guy la!

Wei Liang
My colleague
He’s a very nice guy la, probably the one who I turn to first if I encounter any difficulties with tech specs, cause his technical knowledge is zai one! Learnt a lot from him too! Haha! I’m like leeching things from all of my colleagues!

Francis
My Kiosk manager too!
I have so many kiosk managers! Haha! Firstly, must take care k! Don’t breathe too hard! I think* No idea about the causes but I heard from my friend if it happens again is very dangerous! But anyway, this guy is zai one lor! Constantly thinking of ways to get customers, offering a lot of help to me during my last 3 months. Looking at how he serve customers inspired me! Haha! Maybe a bit exaggerated la but yah, he managed to use this reassuring tone that after his customers bought from him, they know that it is a good buy!

Geok Ling
My colleague
saving the best for the last! Haha! The girl who had training together with me! I must say that it is a love hate affair I have with this girl lor! Haha! You know why I say I like your friend not? Cause that would give us an excuse when Alex tried to throw us together ma! But I really don’t like her. Please buy me back from Friends for sale and change the name can! Can change to I am Han Zhong or something ok! Read le must do hor! And what do you mean by saying you are not going to Taiwan when I’ve extended my contract for you by 7 days! Ok la, I’m kidding but safety is still more important k! Yup! And thanks for saying I accounted for 60% of the entertainment value in kiosk k! Felt so honoured! I hope that you guys can have a good working relation with whoever is going to take over me and later on Jia Wei k!

I will definitely miss the colleagues and the place! But I must proceed with the new phrase of my life! Yay!

Happenings

July 7, 2008

The Taiwan Trip entries are stuck!

Haha, Actually is because I still need to extract photos from my brother’s cam. And why do I have to do that when I have my own set of photos? Because my camera batt died! Haha, was quite lazy to plug into the socket and thought that it can still last one more day.

You know, charging electrical appliances in Taiwan is slow slow slow! They are using 110v power. I don’t even know why countries are using 110v when they could use 220v! 220v charge twice as fast!

Anyway, a bit late la, but went for SIM Freshmen Orientation Day on the 2nd July. Initially was really bored as there is not a single person I know going for the Orientation! But phew, OG4 is quite sociable. Even managed to have Benedict (my fellow ncc cadet) inside my OG! Lucky! Still awaiting the phonecall? to notify if I/we will be going for the Freshmen Orientation Camp.

You know, it’s quite funny actually. SIM money dispenser (ATM) actually ran out of money! So I believe quite a number of people didn’t managed to pay the amount in full. We (8 of us) went over to Ngee Ann Poly to withdraw money. Upon reaching back to SIM, applications were closed! So a pretty lady talked about what we did to the president/vice president of the comittee. upon seeing the pretty lady hearing it, he told us that due to our effort, we could prepare to go for the camp! Yay! (But nobody knows if we will really be in the camp as the trip to Ngee Ann took some time and we were the last few to register) *hope*

Some other things that had been happening is that my last official day @ Dell will be on the 27th July. I don’t know why but is 21 the year to make so many decisions! Do I want to work/join cca/do neither? I’m not so sure about the join CCA part now as all CCAs orientation are held in the month of July whereby I’m still working for most of the month. As for working, I didn’t xtend my contract cause I want to study, so is it wise for me to find a new job to work? Hmmm… Nvm!

Bowling!

June 20, 2008

Been quite some time since I last bowled. However, with the recent Facebook application that had been the rage in my working environment, we decided to go for the real thing. It was a very impromptu and last minute thing with them telling me at the start of work that we are going bowling tonight! Ok la, to be fair, actually there had been discussions on when to go bowling after work, just that I thought is say for fun de. Haha!

Anyway, had been a quite fruitful bowling session. Mainly is cause I’m leaving the company ma and therefore, it is likely going to be my first and last bowling session with them? Actually quite sad at the thought of leaving those wonderful people. But parting and adapting to a new environment is always part and parcel of life ma. Told myself not to get so attached to something be it dramas or whatsoever but I just can’t help it.

Anyway, I post a picture of our second game scores!

*Gasp* Bowled a score of 149 leh! Never ever in my life had I bowled past the 130 barrier! Now I’ve managed to hit 149 using a 11-pound ball when I normally use a 10-pound ball! And normally among my group of friends, bowling a 149 game should finish as the top bowler but look at Francis’s score! 163! Wah seh! So neglecting the first frame, looking at frames no. 2 to no. 6 you will find that for me, it is spare strike spare strike spare! Good right, but if you look at Francis score, it is also spare strike spare strike spare and on top of that he managed to surround it with another 2 spares! Haha! So exciting lor, thought I managed to set a standard there but he matched it every time and even went a step better! I think Li Juan, aka Francis’s girlfriend had a good game too. And of course not forgetting Ms Ong, she had a strike too!

So as shown, the above are the fantastic people who bowled together.

Some memories are created and meant to cherish…

Dell

May 10, 2008

Yup! It’s Dell! I’m currently working for Dell @ Suntec. It’s been 3 months and I find the job quite alright la. Every job has their pros and cons just that I believe mine has more pros than cons. Depending on the outcome of my University status, I might extend my time working for Dell actually. Somehow, I think the chances are high…

Anyway, throughout the 3+ months I’ve been working there, I’m pretty delighted when I see familiar faces. I try to do some roll call of people who I’ve met:

Jun Yi & family
Jun Kit
Hai Hui
Gim Keng
Yian Sin
Sharon
Lt Yang
Thaddeus
Zheng Kai
Olivia
Gary
Sze Wing

Met Yong Ernn, Cindy, Sharon, Alvin, Jeffrey @ Starbucks
Caught Wei Yuan and Kun Ting @ the escalator!

It’s quite nice chatting up with people once in a while, getting to know what they have been doing for the past few months and so on. Quite nice la, like chatting up with old friends. Yup! So if you happen to be in Suntec for some reason, can feel free to drop by ba. If need a laptop/desktop I might be able to give you some recommendations also! (“,)

Drive + Luck

March 12, 2008

From what I feel, sales is derived from 2 factors.

1. Luck
2. Drive

Even if you have the drive, you attend to many customers, however, those customers are just browsing and have zero intention to purchase anything, you will not clinch any sales irregardless. Therefore, with this in mind, we could thus draw up some equations.

100% Drive + 0% Luck = Bad sales
1% Drive + 99% Luck = Moderate sales
50% Drive + 50% Luck = Good sales!

Therefore, in order to have good sales, there is only this much you could do, the rest of it is largely prevalent to external forces.

And on a total irrelevant note, excel rocks! Haha. There’s like so many formulas I could input for easier calculations! It’s so fun to just play around with the formulas and it’s fulfilling when I managed to get the formula to what I wanted correct! Haha!

Sales!

February 16, 2008

I need to know more about tackling human psychology! Cause I’m working as a salesman, and doing sales is not just repeating the well rehearsed lines. You have to:

  • see which products are better for the user
  • gain the trust of the user such that the user/buyer will buy your recommended configurations
  • if the consumer are deciding over rival products, have to explain the differences and yet not sound extremely bias

These are just some aspects of doing sales. It’s the same as studies. Studying smart will always be more efficient than studying hard. So if a salesman introduce a lot of products, it is usually less effective than identifying the correct product before making recommendations.

Eventually, I need to push up my sales figures!!!

Resume!

December 10, 2007

Ahh, sent out my first resume today. Up till now, that is 1530, there’s no reply nor call from them. I suppose this means that… it’s time to send the resume to the 2nd company!

Finding a job is not difficult. However, finding a job to your liking / match your search criteria(s) is the key factor. This is my first time setting out to find a job, not even mentioning about any resume / CV. It’s just that my previous jobs were … they were just there la, therefore, I do not need to worry about looking for a job.

This time round, I want to be independent. (I have to, some time or another so why not now?) I want to go out there and get my first pay cheque! It’s just that the job descriptions provide too little information. What if I got recruited but the job is not what I wanted / expected? That would be terrible!

At age 20, some would feel that looking for a job is just to gain experience in the field that you will want to work in in the future. However, did you realise that at age 20, it might be the last time you could do a fun-related part time job! Argh! So much to consider just for a part time / temporary job!

(Oh yah, do not ask for my resume unless you want to hire me ok!)

Uncle?

October 7, 2007

I’m yet to be 20 years old.

Last heard, my friend said that I look like a Sec 4/5 student thereby proclaiming that I am 16/17 years old.

And today, a shopper came into the shop with her young son.

He was holding onto the card which required registration. Therefore, I looked at him and then at his mother, hinting that I need to register the card. She told her child, “come, give Uncle first.”

Haha. What did I do? I looked down and muttered, “wah, uncle.”

I supposed I said it kinda loud, at least loud enough for the little boy to hear and he in turn said, “Mummy, he not uncle la.”

Haha! Heng I had my back facing them, otherwise the mother would have seen the smile on my face.

Why she cannot say let korkor have it first? More appropriate ma!

Erm, right?
